Body found in burned home

HOUSTON – Investigators are again looking into a house fire after a man's body was found inside a day after the flames were extinguished.

The fire destroyed a home on Loch Bend near Hilton View in northwest Harris County on Christmas Day.

Firefighters said they didn't find a victim during their search after the fire.

On Wednesday, a family member went to the home and found the man's body under three to five feet of debris.

"When they got inside the house, they smelled some type of odor, started digging around inside and that's when they found the victim," said Lt. Chad Shaw of the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office.

Shaw said firefighters found the house filled from floor to ceiling with furniture and other items, but they did not find anyone inside.

Neighbor Justin Lewis said he heard that the home was a mess.

"You know the show 'Hoarders'? It was kind of like that," Lewis said.

The deceased man's name has not been released. Investigators said they believe the man may have died from smoke inhalation.

Detectives said the home did not have electricity or heat. They said it is possible that he was using candles to stay warm. The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
