Bobcats, coyotes spotted in Fort Bend County neighborhoods

HOUSTON – Fulshear police are warning residents in nearby communities to keep their eyes open after a large bobcat and several coyotes were captured on a game camera.

The big cat was captured on a game camera 10 days ago at a property in Fulshear near several large master planned communities, including Cross Creek Ranch and Cinco Ranch.

"I think the major concern was that this bobcat was so large," Fulshear Police Department Capt. Mike McCoy said. "In fact, people even thought it possibly was a mountain lion. We don't have those out here. But it definitely is a bobcat, a very large bobcat."

In the same area, what law enforcement and wildlife experts say is even more threatening, coyotes were caught roaming on camera.

Police are sounding the alarm because with so many new residents who are not used to wildlife, they may be unaware of the potential danger to small children and pets. Some people said they already practice caution.

"We have respect for the environment. You know that they're out there," Cross Creek resident Rob Stevens said. "Haven't personally encountered one, which is good. But you know that the possibility is there."

"I just take precaution with my kids as always," Angie Aviki said. "You know, I don't let them go outside before I check. Even, including the garage."

Law enforcement and wildlife experts said you should never approach a wild animal on your own. They said call them and let them handle it.
