Blue Journey's Rachel Kivlighan talks about life, dance & AGT

HOUSTON – A dance duo with ties to Houston is turning heads with their visually stunning performances on "America's Got Talent."

Blue Journey has made it all the way to the semifinals.

Rachel Kivlighan, who makes up one half of the duo, trained with the Houston Ballet Academy, but has been dancing for most of her life.

"I started dancing when I was about 3-years-old, and obviously I wasn't as dedicated then. But I really got into it when I was 15 or 16, and since then I've just loved it more and more," said Kivlighan.

Kivlighan credits choreographer David Middendorp as the main reason she tried out for "America's Got Talent."

"I met him when I was in Holland at the end of last year. He knew Nick [Mishoe] - my partner - and thought we'd work well together, so he wanted to pair us up for the audition," said Kivlighan.

Getting the chance to appear on national television, however, isn't what she loves most about performing with "Blue Journey".

"I just love getting to tell a story on stage; even if it's not necessarily your own story. Just getting to portray something different."

While Kivlighan enjoys the spotlight, her biggest fan is content with simply watching her daughter perform.

"The joy of seeing all the hard work your child has done, and to see it come to fruition is just amazing. It's very joyful," said Kivlighan's mother.

"Blue Journey's" semi-final performance will air on "America's Got Talent" Tuesday, September 2nd, at 8 p.m.
