Big temperature swings expected over next several days

Warm weather will make for toasty weekend before cold returns

HOUSTON – After a damp, gray Wednesday, peek-a-boo sunshine returns and temperatures go up as the weekend approaches.

Highs Wednesday made it into the mid 60s, which is normal for this time of year, but having gotten used to a MUCH warmer-than-normal winter so far, the day certainly felt chilly to many of us.

Temperatures rebound back into the mid and upper 70s for the rest of the week ahead of our next cold front, which pushes through late Sunday.

The front will bring a chance for rain Sunday night and will usher in a brisk wind and a big cool-down for Monday.  After highs in the upper 70s on Sunday, we'll struggle to make the upper 50s on Monday.  Fortunately, though, Monday will be mainly sunny, so that will bring us some "visual warmth".

Overnight lows will be topsy-turvy, too.  Sunday morning, we'll wake up to temperatures in the 60s.  Monday morning, once the front passes, we'll be grabbing our coats as temperatures bottom out in the mid 40s in the midst of a very brisk wind.  By Tuesday morning, the coldest temperatures we see for the week will be upon us -- 30s!  Hats and gloves, anyone?

For you winter weather lovers, this bit of news is disappointing:  The chill will be short-lived.  Highs will quickly rebound on Wednesday and Thursday back to near or above 70.
