HOUSTON -

Police are looking for the driver responsible for hitting and killing a truck driver Tuesday night in southeast Houston.

The hit-and-run accident happened around 8:15 p.m. on Almeda Genoa near Martindale.

Houston police said a white Mitsubishi Lancer was traveling Almeda Genoa when it hit a man who was crossing the street. The car then slammed into a wood utility pole, knocking it down. 

Officials said before the accident, the victim had parked his big rig on the side of the road and was crossing the street when he was hit.

The driver of the Mitsubishi got out and ran from the scene.
