Big rig crash causes major delays

Police: Driver had no valid drivers license

HOUSTON – An 18-wheeler crash on I-10 near San Jacinto caused major traffic delays Thursday morning.

About 1 a.m., investigators said the driver of the big rig lost control and flipped the truck.

"He claims that he came around the corner. His truck was fully loaded, carrying about 44,000 pounds of paper," said Kyle Heaverlo with the Houston Police Department. "When he came around the corner traveling westbound on the East Freeway, the load shifted, causing his 18-wheeler to turn."

Shortly before 6:30 a.m., officials said traffic was backed up to Waco Street on I-10. Crews shut down the exit ramp to I-45 while they worked to clean up the area, which took several hours.
