HOUSTON -

Critics bashed Beyonce and her new song "XO" over the weekend because the song features an audio sample from the 1986 Challenger space shuttle explosion.

"XO" begins with the voice of a NASA public affairs officer speaking about the disaster.

Bloggers used words like "tasteless" and "disrespectful" to describe the use of audio from the disaster.

Fans quickly came to Beyonce's defense speculating the audio may be some sort of tribute to the City of Houston.

Beyonce sent out a state statement Monday responding to the criticism saying, "My heart goes out to the families of those lost in the Challenger disaster. The song 'XO' was recorded with the sincerest intention to help heal those who have lost loved ones and to remind us that unexpected things happen."
