MONT BELVIEU, Texas – A woman was killed and five others, including three children, were critically injured in a major car accident in Mont Belvieu.
Around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday, police said a driver, 31-year-old Roy Tevay, Jr., of Liberty, was driving on Highway 146 when he lost control of his SUV just north of FM 3360 and flipped the car.
"After it left the roadway it struck a culvert and then flipped five times end over end," said Mont Belvieu Police Chief Virgil Blasdel.
According to authorities, all six people in the vehicle -- three adults and three children -- were thrown from the SUV.
"It doesn't appear all occupants were seat-belted, but we're still looking into that," Blasdel said.
Officials said 30-year-old Christine Groom, of Baytown, died at the scene.
The five others were all airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital.
Groom's 7-year-old son was injured, along with a 3-year-old boy and her 5-year-old brother whose mother was also a passenger.
The names and conditions of the four other victims have not been released.
Officials said Tevay had a mandatory blood draw at the hospital. He is listed in critical condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital.
