BARC needs help finding sick dog

HOUSTON – The city of Houston's Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care needs your help. A dog ran away and hasn't been seen for three days.

The 2-year-old possible Chow mix has severe mange, and now BARC officials and animal control officers are desperately trying to find her and give her the medical attention she needs.

"It's very unfortunate," said Carlene Lormand, BARC marketing and outreach manager. "This has never happened before."

The dog was first rescued in south Houston, wandering the streets when BARC took her in. A rescue group was then going to take her, loading her into their van early in the morning before business hours, when the dog bolted out of the open back gate.

Animal control officers have been looking for the missing dog every day since she escaped.

Anyone who has information or if has seen the dog is asked to call BARC at 713-229-7300 or 311. Officials said people should not try to capture the dog.
