The new school year starts on Monday, and that means HPD hosted it's sixth annual "Look Good Feel Good" Program.
The program took place on Sunday where members of the Houston Police Department Public Affairs Division joined volunteers who donated their time and talent to local children returning to school.
HPD teamed up with local barbers and hair stylists to offer underprivileged kids free hair cuts and styling, along with backpacks and school supplies to Houston area students.
HPD Executive Assistant Chief, Michael Dirden said, "The idea that most kids when they go to school they want to feel comfortable, they want to look right, they want to feel like they fit in with the kids and classmates. So coming out here today and getting ready for the first day of school and making that first step in a positive way is something that is really important for the children."
The group served children at four different locations starting at noon.
One location being the Fort Bend Boys and Girls Club.
