Ever Cotharn was born on July 11 at 6 pounds 10 ounces, rounding out the fourth generation of Cotharn women at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital. Her parents, Trevor and Nicole Cotharn, were eager to welcome their fifth child, and first girl.

"After having four boys, we figured that we were probably never going to have a girl, but when the nurse called to tell me the news that I was expecting a girl, I was just so excited. I couldn't believe it," Nicole Cotharn said in a hospital press release. "That's why we named her Ever, because we waited forever for her to arrive, and she will forever change our lives."

The dual birthday was no coincidence. Cotharn knew for medical reasons she required a Cesarean section, so when she was asked to name the date, she chose to pay homage to her grandmother, who was born the same day as her daughter, 90 years earlier.

"What better way to honor our first baby girl than to have her share the same birth date as the matriarch of our family?" Trevor Cotharn said. "For us, it's such a beautiful tribute to a great woman who created such a wonderful legacy for all the women in the family."

Ruiz traveled nearly 400 miles from Brownsville on her birthday to be one of the first to welcome the newest member of the Cotharn family into the world. With Cotharn's mother also in attendance, four generations of women were together for the special celebration.

"This is the best birthday present I've ever had," Ruiz said, cradling Ever in her arms. "I'm just so happy."
