HOUSTON – The attorney for a woman accused of kidnapping a 2-year-old Houston girl last week said the incident was a misunderstanding.

Jessinia Saldana, 22, was charged with felony kidnapping after police said she kidnapped Alizae Mata.

Houston police said Alizae's mother allowed Saldana to take her daughter to run errands on Wednesday. The mother said yes and expected the two to come home that afternoon, but they didn't, police said. Alizae was found with Saldana at a southeast Houston apartment complex about 11:30 p.m. on Thursday.

"She has been a babysitter for the child before. When all the facts come out in court, we're confident the case will be dismissed," Bryan Savoy said.

Saldana had watched the child previously without incident and was at one time a girlfriend to the child's uncle.

In court on Monday, a judge found the probable cause for the case to move forward.

Saldana remained in the Harris County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.
