HOUSTON - A La Madeleine restaurant based in West Harris County opened an hour and a half later than usual on Thursday, after two men robbed two workers.
Deputies said the robbers were hiding in a cluster of bushes next to the La Madeleine on Mercantile Parkway near N Grand Parkway.
When a manager and another employee arrived for work around 5 a.m., the two men jumped out from behind the bushes.
Investigators said the robbers were armed, and stole jewelry and money from them. The men then forced the victims to walk inside the restaurant and lead the robbers to the safe.
When the manager opened a door leading to the restaurant's safe, an alarm went off. Officers said the frightened robbers took off after hearing the loud noise.
In their rush to escape, the robbers dropped a backpack and other items they had with them.
Deputies reviewed surveillance video from cameras at a nearby J.C. Penney and discovered the suspects drove off in a dark-colored car.
Normally, La Madeleine opens at 6:30 a.m., but because of the robbery, the restaurant remained closed until 8 a.m.
