AT&T: Service is 'running normally

HOUSTON – AT&T customers in the Houston area reported issues with their cell phone service Friday morning.

A spokesperson with AT&T released the following statement just after 11 a.m.:

"Earlier this morning, some AT&T customers in the Houston area may have experienced issues with wireless voice service due to a hardware-related issue. Technicians worked to quickly resolve the problem, and service is currently running normally. We apologize for this inconvenience."

While Local 2 was waiting to hear back from AT&T's media relations department, we called AT&T's customer service line just like you would.

An agent said over the phone:

  • AT&T is having a major issue in the Houston area.
  • A 40-50 mile radius of the city is affected.
  • Not every customer is affected.
  • Suggests turning off your phone every hour or so to check if your phone updates and comes back on.

Local 2 viewers shared their issues on the KPRC Facebook page.

A Cypress man said his landline was working but his cell phone service was out.

Another viewer from northwest Harris County said her cell phone has not worked since 8:15 a.m. Friday.

On Twitter, AT&T responded to customer's tweets about the issues.

"Thanks for the feedback," tweeted @ATT. "We are aware of an issue in your area. Our network team is working to solve it ASAP."
