ATF agent shoots burglary suspect

HARRIS COUNTY – Harris County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a burglary in the Senterra Lakes subdivision.

Around 4 a.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a shooting.

Officials said a family with small children were sleeping when they woke up to a noise inside the home.

The homeowner, an alcohol, tobacco and firearms agent, grabbed his gun went downstairs and saw a man stealing items.

Deputies said the family left the garage door open and the suspect saw it as an easy target. They said the homeowner chased the burglar out of his home and into the street.

"When the suspect entered his vehicle, it looked like he maybe tried to retrieve a weapon," said Sgt. Ben Beall with Harris County Sheriff's Office. "The homeowner fired one shot and struck the suspect in the arm and fired a second shot disabling the vehicle."

Officials said the suspect jumped in his van and drove to Kuykendahl and FM 1960 where his van broke down. Deputies arrested him there and he was taken to Ben Taub Hospital. He's expected to recover.

Police said the suspect faces a burglary of a habitation charge. Deputies said the suspect has a long criminal history
