HOUSTON -

Local 2 Investigates has learned a man is now charged in the unsolved murder of Gelareh Bagherzadeh, who was shot to death outside her Galleria-area town home in January 2012.

Court documents obtained by Local 2 state that Ali Mahwood-Awad Irsan, of Conroe, is charged with felony murder in the shooting death of Bagherzadeh. Irsan, 56, was arrested Thursday morning and is being held without bond.

Late Thursday afternoon, Irsan was officially in federal custody, according to a source with Harris County District Attorney's office.

While being questioned at the Montgomery County Jail, a source said that Irsan collapsed during a police interview and was being treated at a Conroe area hospital.

The source did not believe the murder suspect's medical condition was life-threatening.

The U.S. Attorney's office has indicated that Irsan, his wife, and a daughter all have federal fraud charges pending.

All three suspects are expected to make their initial appearances before a U.S. magistrate judge in Houston federal court Friday at 10 a.m., spokeswoman Angela Dodge said.

Gelareh Bagherzadeh was shot to death outside her Galleria area town home on Jan. 15, 2012.

Bagherzadeh was killed on Augusta Drive near Sugar Hill Drive. Her car was found at the back of a town home complex, Local 2 previously reported.

Investigators said Bagherzadeh was a graduate student studying genetic research at M.D. Anderson.
