Man who dressed as woman to rob Texas City bank arrested, police say

Man also accused of robbing ice cream shop

TEXAS CITY, Texas – Police have arrested a man in connection with a bank robbery that also led to a bomb scare.

Courtney Dran Sargent, 31, is charged with two counts of aggravated robbery.

Police said he walked into the Regions Bank on 25th Street North in Texas City on Feb. 4. Witnesses said he was dressed as a woman. Police said Sargent gave a teller a note demanding money and claimed to have a bomb.

Police and the bomb squad surrounded the bank. They said Sargent drove off with money from the bank. The bomb squad later found the explosive device was a hoax.

Sargent is also accused of robbing a Baskin Robbins store on Palmer Highway on Feb. 2 and stealing an employee's car to get away.

Sargent is now in jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond for each robbery count.
