App lets people sent crime tips to HCSO

HOUSTON – Cracking down on crime – there's an app for that!

The Harris County Sheriff's Office's application called iWatchHarrisCounty allows people to send in crime tips.

"I'd rather download an app than having to go search online for certain things or even call someone about certain things," Houstonian Latasha Riles said. "So, if I can go to the app, it's just more helpful."

Sheriff Adrian Garcia said the app has already gotten results. More than 1,000 tips have been made via the app.

The first arrest made from a tip sent via the app was made at a north Harris County home. Investigators said it was a drug house and there was a baby inside it.

"It happened because of iWatch," Garcia said. "It happened because a citizen took control of the situation and sent in the information we needed."

Investigators said anyone who uses the app is still eligible for any reward that is being offered.
