HOUSTON -

Homicide detectives said the remains found in the woods overnight off Furman Street in southeast Houston, were actually that of an animal.

Around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, a couple of security guards and their K9 units were out in a large field doing some exercises with their dogs, when one of the dogs was alerted to a strong odor in the field.

The security guards called Houston police, and homicide detectives responded to the scene.

Police said due to decomposition, it appeared the body in the woods about 50 feet off the road at least a week.

A few hours later, detectives ruled the remains were that of an animal.
