Andre Johnson prepares for annual Thanksgiving giveaway

HOUSTON – An entire truckload of holiday food was unloaded Thursday night at Fifth Ward Church of Christ.

It's a result of the Andre Johnson Foundation, DeMeco Ryans Foundation and John Lucas Foundation coming together. In fact, two of those names were at the church helping.

Former Texans, former teammates and both retired from the NFL: DeMeco Ryans and Andre Johnson.

“I’ve been blessed, man, I've been blessed to play this game for 14 seasons… I've been blessed to make money so why not bless somebody else,” Johnson said.

Fifteen hundred families in need will receive their free Thanksgiving Day meals Friday morning at the church. While Johnson won't be able to attend the actual giveaway, he's been a part of it in years past and has many fond memories.

“It's always great. It's probably the most hugs I get from people. I think it's probably the most.  Everybody that comes through the line is always saying, they're so thankful. Whenever you can put a smile on somebody's face. You never know how long that can go because you never know what somebody's going through,” Johnson said.

Friday morning, the pallets of food will be organized and the line will be long.

It's important to note all of the vouchers for these meals have already been given away.  And just to reiterate, Andre will not be at the church on Friday.

We don't want any fans to show up only to be disappointed.
