Alleged shoplifter shot by beauty supply store manager

The manager spotted the suspected shoplifter at a nearby tire shop and confronted him

HOUSTON – Houston police responded to a shooting Wednesday afternoon at a beauty supply store in southwest Houston.

Officials said the shooting happened in the 10400 block of Club Creek Drive near Beechnut Road around 1 p.m. Wednesday.

An alleged shoplifter was shot after being accused of stealing liquor from a beauty supply and liquor store.

About 30 minutes after the alleged theft, the manager spotted the suspected shoplifter at a nearby tire shop and chased after him.

Witnesses tell us they were asked to leave the tire store, but the beauty shop manager reportedly pistol-whipped the suspect and then shot him in the leg.

"They were scuffling inside and he was blaming him about something and he hit him across the head," said one witness. "They came out here and we told him we already called the cops and he shot him."

The alleged shoplifter was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK.

The beauty shop manager was arrested and is charged with aggravated assault.
