All Houston-area sextuplets born in April now home

Sixth and final baby is released from the hospital

HOUSTON – It's a major milestone for the Perkins family. Born in April, the three boys and three girls are finally home.

The last baby, little Leah, was discharged from Texas Children's Pavilion for Women Monday and she went out with a bang. Her five brothers and sisters, Benjamin, Allison, Levi, Andrew and Caroline, joined her for a send off celebration.

Each child was hugged and held by the countless staff members who watched over the babies from day one.

Their dad, David Perkins said, "It took longer than we expected (for the babies to be discharged) and we were prepared for the roller coaster experience of the NICU, but that's all in the past now. We're just excited to bring her home."

Mom Lauren Perkins added, "It's exciting and a little nerve-wracking to just to have six and (Leah) has some special needs, so that makes it a little more challenging."

Leah still wears a feeding tube to help with digestive issues after two corrective surgeries, but developmentally, she and her siblings are doing great.

Lauren and David Perkins said home is "organized chaos" -- a lot of noise, a lot of mess, but a lot of fun, too.

David Perkins said, "I appreciate that we have no choice but to live life to the fullest. I appreciate the fact that our house will be full of life. There will never be a dull moment."

Lauren Perkins added, "Words can't describe how grateful we are. We couldn't manage without all the help, without friends and family and neighbors who come over every day."

Thanks to that help, Lauren and David Perkins have even be able to enjoy a few date nights and get some real sleep on occasion.

As the Perkins family left the Pavilion for Women, the hospital welcomed its first set of quintuplets born to Sarah and Bruce Plauche of Lake Charles.
