HOUSTON â KPRC's cameras were rolling as Kathryn Camille Murray walked out of jail Wednesday afternoon. She wouldn't answer our questions as she got into a taxi cab and drove off.
The former Spring Branch ISD teacher served time in jail for having sex with one of her middle school students.Â
Murray was sentenced to two years in prison after being convicted of improper relationship with a student and sexual assault of a child. Her attorney said last week that she is ready for a fresh start.
"He [the judge] gave her credit for the time that she already spent in jail, and this matter is over with," said her attorney Robert Ross. "I'm just glad it's behind us and so is she, and so is her family. She'll start anew with a good life."
Murray, who was a teacher at Memorial Middle School, was charged after investigators learned about her relationship with a 15-year-old boy whom she was supposed to be tutoring.
According to court documents, on one occasion, Murray picked the eighth-grader up at a school dance after his father had dropped him off. Investigators said Murray, 31, took him to a hotel room where they had sex.
The next night, investigators said she went to the boy's home to have sex with him while his parents were gone. Murray was arrested and charged after police learned of their relationship.
While free on bail, Murray was again arrested after the teen ran away from home and was found at her house. The teacher was charged with harboring a runaway, a charge that was dropped as part of her plea agreement.
Murray pleaded guilty in December 2013, and a judge sentenced her the following month.
