After traffic stop, man tells deputies he's going to jail for a long time

HOUSTON – Montgomery County deputies are happy that Mark Ruiz, 36, is off the streets.

Ruiz was pulled over by Precinct 4 deputies around 2 p.m. last Friday for not wearing a seat belt and not using a turn signal.

A check showed Ruiz had an active felony warrant.

When deputies approached the car to make the arrest, Ruiz asked them to give his belongings to his ex-wife, who was at a nearby gas station. When officers asked why, Ruiz told them that he would be going to jail for a long time for what they were about to find in his car.

Deputies discovered over 27 grams of methamphetamine in the back seat along with a scale, spoon, a shot glass and nearly 100 small clear plastic baggies - all of which had residue and are commonly used for narcotic sale and use.

According to deputies, he is charged with the first-degree felony of manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance and possession of methamphetamine.

“It's guys like this that are filtering the illegal narcotics through our neighborhoods. I’m proud of my guys for getting this guy off the street,” Constable Kenneth “Rowdy” Hayden said.
