Temperatures may be rising in Texas, but gas prices are going down.
AAA Texas on Thursday reported the statewide average is $3.46 per gallon. That price is four cents less than one week ago and 13 cents less than the national average of $3.59.
AAA Texas said Amarillo has the cheapest gasoline in Texas this week at $3.39 per gallon. Dallas and Galveston tied for the most expensive prices at the pump at $3.48 per gallon. The average price in Houston is $3.47.
The drop in gas prices in Texas could be short-lived. The potential for late-season hurricanes could disrupt production, distribution and gasoline supply at a time when many people are filling up their tanks for end-of-summer vacations.
However, AAA said if no major storms threaten the Gulf Coast, gas prices could remain flat or even drop further.
