HOUSTON -

A youth counselor in Montgomery County has been arrested and accused of possessing child pornography.

The Conroe Police Department said John Charles Mason, 53, was charged with four counts.

Postal inspectors called Conroe Police for help with Mason's arrest. He was apprehended at the Treehouse apartments on Wilson Road.

Police only said it was an ongoing investigation by the postal inspector and did not elaborate.

Mason was employed as a youth counselor with Montgomery County Youth Services.

The executive director issued a statement that said, "Employee confidentiality policies limit what I can add, but I can tell you the person has been dismissed from his position with our organization. As this is a matter for law enforcement, that is all the information I can share at this time."

Mason's neighbors were concerned about the arrest.

"It's very much of a concern to me. I was already skeptical about bringing a child into the world, the way it is now. But it just lets you know what kind of people are out there. And what kind of concerns you need to be worried about," neighbor Trazell Collins said.
