A woman wanting a driving lesson was killed and her 10-year-old son critically hurt after she wrecked an SUV carrying both, investigators said.
Houston police said the woman was with a man in his vehicle Tuesday night in the parking lot near Almeda Mall. Her two children were also in the SUV.
The man and the woman's daughter stepped out, the woman jumped into the driver's seat and asked the man to teach her to drive. Police said the woman released the hand brake and stepped on the accelerator.
The SUV hit a furniture store and then a parked car.
Police said the woman wasn't wearing a seat belt and died at the scene.
The woman's 10-year-old son was rushed to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment.
