HOUSTON -

A woman was shot in the face in a murder-suicide in northwest Harris County Monday, deputies said.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said the shooting happened shortly after 6:30 a.m. in the 7300 block of River Pines.

Investigators said Myles Bradley Ashley shot his wife, 60-year-old Thelma Ashley, before turning the gun on himself.

Thelma Ashley called for help before she died, detectives said.

"They found the female laying on the living room floor," Deputy Felipe Rivera said. "They later found the male in the bedroom."

The wife and husband were taken to hospitals, where they died.

Neighbors said the couple seemed to be happy.

"Nice neighbors," Elka Esqueda said. "We haven't heard anything bad about them."

Neighbors said that Myles Ashley had been sick recently. He has been in and out of the hospital, they said.

Deputies said they have been to the home before, but they didn't elaborate about those incidents.

"We're talking to the family right now, trying to get the history of it," Rivera said.

According to public records, the couple was married almost 42 years. They had at least two grown children, according to records.
