HOUSTON -

Two women were held hostage for hours and one of them was shot in a southwest Houston restaurant Tuesday, police said.

Investigators said a man stormed into the La Pupusa Loco restaurant in the 7200 block of Hillcroft at Jessamine shortly after the restaurant closed at midnight.

He forced Daysi Landaverde, 41, another waitress to the back of the restaurant.

"Somebody came after a waitress with a gun. They were held hostage for three hours," said Ernesto Larin, the restaurant's owner. "He said he was going to kill her and her by herself. And he shot her."

An argument broke out and Landaverde was shot in the chest, officials said. The suspect, Ramon Aguilar, then accidentally shot himself in the leg.

The uninjured waitress called 911. Landaverde was listed in critical condition at Ben Taub Hospital. Relatives said the bullet became lodged in her liver.

Landaverde's brother said he had no idea that Aguilar was giving his sister problems.

"What happened is she never told us anything," Edwin Landaverde said. "He just tried to date her for the last three years. She never respond. He started getting obsession."

Aguilar's condition was not released. He has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Landaverde has worked at the restaurant for 12 years.
