Woman killed in drive-by shooting
A woman was fatally wounded in a drive-by shooting, and a toddler was in the vehicle that was fired upon on Tuesday, investigators said.
Pasadena police said the woman was found shot in a car outside Houston Garden Centers on Beltway 8 near Vista about 11 a.m. The shooting happened while two vehicles were headed eastbound on Vista.
The victim was taken to a hospital, where she later died. She was identified as 58-year-old Yolanda Aguilar.
Investigators said the shooter and the victim are related.
One of the relatives invited the other to participate in drug activity, detectives said. The invitee declined the offer and a family conflict began, officials said.
Aguilar was a passenger in the vehicle, investigators said. Her husband was driving the vehicle and may have been the intended target, police said.
"They were trying to kill me. My niece was living with this guy who used to do a lot of coke. He tried to get my son to help him sell some. We never do no coke or marijuana or nothing like that," Aguilar said.
"They opened fire and my wife's head fell down to the side. She never answered and then I pushed her again. She fell down on my chest again," he said.
A woman and her 2-year-old child were also in the vehicle at the time of the shooting, police said. They were not hurt.
Investigators said three people were inside the vehicle from which the shots were fired. The vehicle was found in La Porte and its driver was taken in for questioning. The other two people in the vehicle have not been found.
