A woman has been accused of hurting her disabled mother-in-law.
Sanda Elaine McIntyre, 52, has been charged with injury to a disabled person by omission.
Prosecutors said McIntyre, who was supposed to be caring for her mother-in-law, did not give her food.
The abuse was discovered when the mother-in-law's sister asked police to do a welfare check, investigators said.
Detectives said that the mother-in-law had lost 40 to 50 pounds and the only food in the house was a bottle of mustard.
The electricity and gas at the home was turned off, officials said.
Investigators said the mother-in-law threatened to call police and McIntyre kicked her.
Detectives said drugs, believed to belong to McIntyre, were found inside the home.
McIntyre is suspected of stealing her mother-in-law's $2,500 monthly Social Security checks.
McIntyre is being held in the Harris County Jail without bond.
She has a prior conviction on a theft charge, officials said.
