GALVESTON, Texas -

A woman was found dead on a Galveston beach early Sunday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Galveston County sheriff's deputies said campers discovered Bridgett Gearen's body lying on the sand on Crystal Beach near the water's edge.

Detectives said Gearen, 28, had visited friends at a home on Redfish Road near Crystal Beach Road, about 100 feet from where her body was found.

Friends told investigators that they planned to take a ride on the beach just before midnight Saturday. Gearen walked out of the house alone and her friends were not able to find her, deputies said.

Investigators said Gearen suffered several injuries and may have been strangled. An autopsy will determine the exact cause of her death.

Deputies said they want to speak with anyone who may have seen Gearen and anyone she may have been with. Gearen was white, about 5 feet 3 inches tall and 110 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a red halter-type top and blue jean shorts.
