The mild winter across southeast Texas has delivered an unwelcome guest for some: an earlier and longer allergy season.
Classic allergy symptoms include itchy, watery eyes, a runny nose, sneezing, congestion, drainage and cough. In some cases, it can trigger asthma symptoms like wheezing and difficulty breathing.
Dr. Madhu Narra with Baylor College of Medicine recommends checking your city's website to keep track of allergens. If you're allergic to tree pollen, Dr. Narra advises staying indoors when pollen levels are high. Also, change your clothing and wash your hair if you spend an extended period of time outdoors.
Another idea -- clean your pets before they come indoors because they can carry pollen in with them.
Dr. Narra also says if over-the-counter medications and prescriptions aren't helping, consider getting allergy shots.
