Residents wake up to flooded street

HOUSTON -

Drivers and residents had to deal with a flooded street in southwest Houston, and it wasn't even raining.

A water main broke on Braeburn Valley near Tanager on Wednesday morning.

Resident Emma Moreno said there was not any water running to her home.

"It's been off since my husband woke up around 5:30 in the morning," she said. "He said, 'Did you pay the water bill?' I say, 'Yes, what happened?' He says, 'There's no water.' Then he looked outside and it was like … it was flooded. All the streets were flooded."

One resident said the water was gushing so quickly that it pulled bedding plants out of the ground.

Crews pumped water out of the street and began making repairs. Residents in the area were expected to be without water while those repairs were being completed.

A spokesman for the Public Works department said the area is known for an aging infrastructure and was already targeted for repairs.
