HOUSTON -

Lost luggage complaints dog one major airline much more than the competition.

United Airlines holds the worst luggage record of any major airline this year, according to NBCNews.com.

The Chicago-based airline loses nearly 20,000 checked bags each month, on average.

A United Airlines spokesperson attributed the dubious distinction to bad weather and a higher than average number of missed connections at Newark and San Francisco.

The spokesman said in most cases, passengers are reunited with their luggage within several hours.

United Airline's largest hub is Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston.
