As Tropical Storm Ernesto gains strength in the Caribbean, Tropical Storm Florence has formed in the far eastern Atlantic, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

In the 10 p.m. Saturday advisory, the National Hurricane Center said Ernesto was at 15.4 North, 72.7 West, or about 325 miles east-southeast of Kingston, Jamaica. It had maximum sustained winds of 60 mph and was moving to the west at 22 mph.

Tropical Storm Ernesto dumped heavy rain on islands at the eastern entrance to Caribbean on Friday, crossing into the sea on a path that could take it to Jamaica and Mexico.

Ernesto may increase to hurricane strength by Sunday night or early Monday in the west Central Caribbean, Local 2's Khambrel Marshall said. On the current track, it's expected to hit the Mexican Yucatan peninsula Wednesday afternoon and emerge into the southern Gulf and Bay of Campeche sometime Thursday. The track from there is uncertain.

Tropical Storm Florence formed in the Atlantic Saturday morning. In the NHC's 10 p.m. advisory Saturday, Florence was packing maximum sustained winds of 60 mph, moving west-northwest at 15 mph. Florence is located about 600 miles west of the southernmost Cape Verde Islands.

Florence is expected to continue a westward movement and a gradual move to a northerly track and either curve out to sea or possibly toward the east coast. It is not expected to strengthen into a hurricane.
