Tropical Storm Debby lingers in Gulf
1st time since 1851 that 4 storms have formed before July
Tropical Storm Debby is nearly stationary over the central Gulf of Mexico.
As of 11 p.m. Saturday, Debby was about 215 miles south-southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River. The National Hurricane Center in Miami reported that Debby had maximum sustained winds of 50 mph with higher gusts.

Little movement from Debby was expected Sunday morning.
Forecasters predict Debby to slowly move northward beginning Sunday afternoon followed by a gradual turn to the west by Sunday night or Monday morning. The center of Debby is expected to move over the northern Gulf during the next few days.
A tropical storm warning was issued from the mouth of the Pearl River westward to Morgan City, Louisiana, not including New Orleans. Tropical storm conditions are expected to reach the area by Sunday night.
Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Debby could be near hurricane strength by Monday night.
The National Hurricane Center reported that this is the first time since 1851 that four storms have formed before July.
Houston-area weather
This weekend, southeast Texas will begin to see a heat wave. Afternoon highs will reach the upper 90s with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies on Saturday and Sunday. Factoring humidity, it will feel more like the triple-digits this weekend.
An Ozone Watch is in effect for the Houston area on Saturday. Plenty of sunshine, light winds and hot temperatures will mean high levels of ozone pollution. The air quality will be unhealthy for sensitive groups. If you have breathing problems, try to limit outdoor activities.
The start of the work week will bring triple-digit heat for the first time this summer. We’re forecasting 100 degrees Monday through Wednesday with mostly sunny skies.
