Toys R Us is changing its layaway program ahead of the holiday season.

The chain is hoping the change will make it easier for shoppers to use the program.

Beginning Tuesday, Toys R Us will waive its service fee and its minimum purchase requirement.

The move is intended to counter tough competition from online retailers as the crucial holiday season approaches.
