Thunderstorms possible through this evening

HOUSTON -

A cold front will push through Houston this evening, bringing with it the threat for a few strong storms.

This is part of a larger storm system that will be impacting a very large section of the country from the Great Lakes to the Gulf Coast. The greatest risk for severe weather, in the form of high wind, hail, and tornadoes, will be from extreme southern Illinois south to northern Louisiana and northeast Texas.

While the Houston area does run the risk of strong storms, the main threat area will be well north of the city. In Houston, we could see gusty wind and small hail, especially if storms develop into a line, known as a squall line, that sweeps quickly through the area.

The most likely window for thunderstorms in southeast Texas will be between 6 and 10 p.m.

Once the cold front pushes through the area later this evening, the atmosphere will stabilize quickly and the threat for more thunderstorms will be gone.

The cold front will set southeast Texas up for cooler, more seasonable weather in the area beginning Wednesday. High temperatures will only reach the mid 60s on Wednesday.
