More than 1,000 professionals rolled up their sleeves Friday to volunteer their time and energy for a good cause.
On Deloitte's website Friday, a note on the main page reads, "Be back soon. We're volunteering."
They took part in the company's nationwide IMPACT day in which workers at the company skip work to volunteer their time someplace else.
"One day out of the year we all leave the office and we all come together to do things like this," said Wright Moody of Delloite.
"We've got a group out at Memorial Park. We've got people at Reagan High School, United Way, the food bank and a number of different venues around the city. Really showing our support for the city of Houston," said Wright.
Officials with the company said more than 1,000 Deloitte employees donated their time at more than 40 different projects taking place around the city.
One of those projects included work at Memorial Assistance Ministries, which provides emergency financial assistance and other services for families and individuals who find themselves in temporary crisis and in need of assistance.
The organization is currently going through a major renovation to expand its operations, officials said. Deloitte employees with experience and knowledge of retail operations will plan, organize and make recommendations (and potentially set up) for the organization's expanded retail space. Employees will be stocking and inventorying warehouse donations and retail store merchandise. They'll also be setting up, manning and breaking down a summer sidewalk sale, passing out coupons for MAM merchandise, and a number of other things.
Employees will also be helping out at local schools with beautification work, painting, moving classrooms and cleaning, officials said.
Officials with the company said this was its 13th IMPACT day.
