Thieves hit downtown parking garage

HOUSTON -

A popular downtown Houston parking garage has been the target of thieves.

Workers at St. Joseph's Hospital downtown campus said they are frightened by a rash of car break-ins.

"People who are breaking into these vehicles are looking for something. I don't know whether it's money or what they're looking for, but sooner or later, someone is going to get hurt," Debbie Brown said.

Brown said her daughter works at the hospital and parks in the garage. She worries for her daughter's safety.

Some employees told Local 2 that they've heard about a rash of break-ins, but are afraid to speak up, worried about a backlash from their employer.

"They do this in broad daylight or last night, overnight. It can be anytime," Brown said. "This message is be very careful. Watch out for one another. Go in groups whenever you go out to your car."

St. Joseph's Hospital said it is aware of the recent break-ins. Officials said they have added security and put certain measures in place to try and catch the thieves.
