SPICEWOOD -

The drought is taking its toll on the town of Spicewood, which is located about 45 miles northwest of Austin.

The town's wells can no longer produce enough water to meet all the needs of the city's 1,100 residents.

Additional water is being brought into the town. The Lower Colorado River Authority is hauling at least four truckloads of water each day to keep a 129,000-gallon water storage tank full.

Ryan Rowney, manager of water operations at LCRA, said it's a direct result of the drought.

"As the lake goes down, the wells go down," he said.

Spicetown is also stringent water restrictions.

The LCRA says it is exploring permanent options, like drilling a new well. Until then, it will continue to haul in water by truck.
