HOUSTON -

The Texas Department of State Health Services opened up more areas to oyster harvesting.

Effective Friday, Espiritu Santo Bay and a portion of San Antonio Bay will be open.

Recent tests indicated shellfish in those areas was safe to eat, said health officials.

All other Texas costal waters remained closed to harvesting because of red tide, a type of algae bloom.

State health officials plan on testing oysters in other areas before opening them for harvesting.
