HOUSTON -

No fisherman's tale needed here! A Texas angler caught a record-setting blue marlin in the Gulf of Mexico.

Christopher Howat, of Spring, caught the 721-pound blue marlin. The fish was 111 inches long and 66 inches wide.

The fish is the biggest blue marlin caught this year.

It was also big enough to place number one in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Classic Tournament.

It's the third largest blue marlin caught in state history.

According to National Geographic, Blue Marlins tend to range between 200 and 400 pounds, not more than 700.

The massive marlin also netted Howat and his crew a whopper of a check -- $225,100 in prize money.
