VATICAN CITY -

A group of college students from Texas is in Italy to witness the historical conclave to choose a new pope.

KPRC Local 2's Bill Balleza met with eight students from Texas A&M University who said they were excited and considered the trip a once in a lifetime opportunity.

The eight are bioengineering students who are spending the semester studying abroad in Germany.  They're on spring break and took a train to Italy to be a part of history.

"We lucked out," one of the students said.

Even though they didn't get to see white smoke on Tuesday, the students said the trip was worth it.

"The anticipation totally made it worth it," a student said.
