Suspect wanted in 77-year-old woman's rape
Wesley Bernard Gordon accused of attacking woman in 2003
Police are searching for a man who raped a 77-year-old woman in her home about nine years ago.
Wesley Bernard Gordon, 40, has been charged with sexual assault of an elderly or disabled person.
Houston police said the woman was working on her bills at her dining room table in an apartment in the 3800 block of North Braeswood on Aug. 8, 2003. When she got out of her chair, Gordon attacked her, police said.
"I never saw him," said the now 86-year-old woman, who did not want to be identified. "Soon as I got up he charged me. I screamed and I kept screaming."
Detectives said Gordon punched the woman in her face and she began praying because she thought she was going to die.
Gordon took the woman's coin jar and piggy bank from her bathroom and bedroom and then tied her hands with a clock radio, police said.
Investigators said Gordon raped the woman in a dark room before he left with her money and purse.
"He threw me down on the floor in the bedroom," the woman said. "He said he didn't want me to see him."
DNA from a rape kit was entered into the Combined DNA Index System. In September 2012, Gordon was found to be a match.
"I was completely surprised ... after all this time," the woman said. "I would like for him to go to jail so he doesn't do anything to anybody else."
The woman said she prayed for her attacker.
"God says, 'Pray for your enemies,' so I prayed for him," she said.
Gordon's criminal history includes convictions on charges of unauthorized use of motor vehicle, auto theft, burglary of motor vehicle, assault, evading arrest, possession of marijuana and credit card abuse.
Gordon has not been arrested. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
