HOUSTON -

A woman's skeleton was found in southeast Houston on Monday.

Houston police said a person found a human skull in the courtyard of an abandoned apartment complex in the 6300 block of Cullen about 11 a.m. The person was with a group that was evaluating the property to possibly purchase it, officials said.

Detectives said they searched the property and almost all of the woman's skeleton was found.

"I was just shocked," said Wilfred Carlot, who lives in the area. "We smelled it earlier, about a month ago. Then all of a sudden the scent went away."

Carlot said he thought the smell was from a dead dog.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences will determine how long ago the woman died, as well as possibly her identity and the cause of her death.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
