Residents in a Fort Bend County neighborhood were frightened by the sound of gunshots on Wednesday morning.
Fort Bend County sheriff's deputies said they received calls about multiple shots being fired in the area of Gaines Meadow Drive in the Kingsbridge subdivision about 7:30 a.m.
Detectives said they found a shotgun at a home in the 8200 block of Gaines Meadow Drive. Officials said they believe that shotgun is the gun believed to have been fired on Wednesday.
Fort Bend County Independent School District officials said that officials at three nearby schools kept children inside the buildings during the investigation, but none of the schools were locked down.
Residents were told to stay on alert for someone who was armed and dangerous.
"All I heard was gunshots and then my mom woke me up because she heard it too," said Cassandra Quintana.
The shotgun was taken as evidence from the home on Gaines Meadow Drive. Investigators said they also found 14 shell casings in the back yard.
"I am pretty concerned and worried about what happened," said Quintana. "I hope everything is good."
The homeowner's son was taken into custody for outstanding warrants, but so far, investigators haven't said if he was the person who also fired the shotgun.
Neighbors are shaken because they know someone, including their children walking to school in the morning, could have been hurt by the shotgun blast.
"Definitely we're scared about it because this neighborhood is supposed to be safe and peaceful right here, you know," said Quintana.
The homeowner would not comment about what happened, but investigators said they will continue to question him and his son about why the shotgun was fired.
