After Thanksgiving comes Black Friday, and after Black Friday comes Small Business Saturday, when small businesses get ready for their post-Thanksgiving shopping frenzy.

"I need to really play my numbers and be very aware of what people are drawn to and what the items are that are strong," said gift shop owner, Jan Stevens.

For small businesses, the holiday shopping season impacts how they start the beginning of the new year.

On Black Friday, most of that hustle and bustle is at big retail stores.  However, small business owners hope shoppers hold on to some of their enthusiasm for Small Business Saturday.

American Express started the retail holiday a couple of years ago, and it has proved to be successful for some small business owners.

"I have a network of stores that I email with and Facebook with and they are from different parts of the country and it has really done well for them as well," said small business manager, Amanda Graddy.

Small Business Saturday is on Nov. 24, the day after Black Friday. American Express will give its customers a $25 credit if they enroll their card and then spend at least $25 at a registered small business on Saturday.
