HOUSTON -

Ten fires have been set in the Memorial area in the past two months, and investigators said they think they're dealing with an arsonist.

Crime Stoppers officials said the fires have been set along an area near Memorial Drive and Dairy Ashford since December. Another similar fire was set in May, officials said.

The fires have been set in Dumpsters and at apartment buildings, investigators said. Four of the six fires at apartment complexes were started in stairwells, which blocked residents' escape routes, detectives said.

The fires were set at the following locations:

  • May 2012: 14222 Kimberley Lane; fire at front door of apartment
  • Dec. 6: 14800 Memorial Drive; exterior wall of vacant apartment set on fire
  • Jan. 5: 14814 Perthshire Road; fire inside stairwell of apartments
  • Jan. 6: 14814 Perthshire Road; fire inside stairwell of apartments
  • Jan. 7: 14366 Memorial Drive; trash fire behind convenience store
  • Jan. 9: 14205 Kimberly Lane; fire inside trashcan in park restroom
  • Jan. 12: 801 Country Place Drive; fire inside vacant apartment

  • Jan. 21: 14814 Perthshire Road; fire inside stairwell of apartments

Investigators said they don't have a description of the arsonist, but they think he or she travels on foot and lives in the immediate area.
